August, 2007: Julie Amlin and Song Cui create an installation out of their massive sculpture, a bird with a wing span that stretches longer than 18 feet, in the children's section of the Westmount Library in Montreal. Each of the feathers was made from research, notes and sketches about birds. The enormous bird, constructed mostly of paper, was meant to probe the imagination of the young ones, and encourage them to add their own feathers to the sculpture, which they did in different workshops throughout the summer and early fall. July 2007: Julie Amlin's first solo exhibition took place at Gallery Rafael in Montreal, on boulevard Saint-Laurent in the summer of 2007. The show ran for two weeks, and was extended to run for a third week. The show featured over 50 works in various media, including painting, drawing, screen printing, and sculpture. Gallery Rafael still carries a handful of Amlin's paintings, available for purchase. |
